    "Functional Classic Beauty"
Susan Davy admits she is a bit of a perfectionist. In fact, nothing leaves the Davy Pottery Studio until it meets owner Susan Davy's rigorous standards for how a piece should look and function in the home.

"I focus on so many aspects--the shape of a mug's handle, the slant of a bowl, or the weight of a serving piece," says Susan, who has worked as a professional potter since 1975. She currently is one of only two full-time potters in the whole state of North Dakota.

Susan took an interest in pottery along with one of her sisters during the 1960s while she was working on her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She soon became so comfortable at the potter's wheel that she left nursing after five years to work full-time as a potter. "Making pots was the most absorbing thing I had ever done....I would lose total track of the passage of time."

In the mid 1990s, Susan branched out from her vast array of functional dinnerware and serving pieces to add a few items for nature lovers: bird feeders and bird houses that are "anatomically correct for wrens and feeders that are squirrel chew-proof." These clay houses and feeders have very attractive copper and brass roofs that do not rust. The Studio's dedication to aesthetics and function ensures that this exceptional pottery may be enjoyed for years to come!
